This is a must visit every summer. While I usually gorge myself with lobster and home cooking. The duck is something not to miss. A great place for a classy dinner with the family, or a romantic date night away from the kids. The new ownership hasn't changed anything - great food you can depend on!

I have been to The Village Inn for dinner twice now since new owners Kate and Heather took over. The first time was for their special Thanksgiving meal and the second time was after the renovations about two weeks ago. The Thanksgiving meal was amazing. My husband ordered the duck appetizers and I order the crab cakes - both were delish. He ordered the traditional Thanksgiving meal and I got the salmon entree. We were both VERY impressed and satisfied. When we returned recently, the changes were like night and day with the decor. A modern, lodge feel, but with a true sense of the traditions of Maine. Right on the water, it is such an idea spot... This time, my husband again ordered the duck appetizer (he talked about it the whole ride up) and I got the Lobster and Corn Fritters that were lovely. For our mains, I ordered the Crispy Pan Fried Haddock over Scalloped Potato Gratin and the hubby got the Lobster Mac and Cheese. The fish was amazing! And the scalloped potatoes were perfect and great to see on a menu (instead of just mashed or oven roasted). The lobster M&C - was perfect and knocked our socks off. There was a good amount of lobster meat, which was cooked perfectly and there you could taste all of the cheesy yumminess of the rest of the dish. The best part of the experience at the restaurant is the overwhelming enthusiasm of the owners. They are passionate about each and every diner's experience and have a lot of great ideas. They have recently begun to serve lunch (weekends only) and have live bands play (Wednesdays and Sundays). They have the boat docks for folks to come for a bite and in the early fall are planning a large event. They recently hosted a beer pairing dinner featuring Allagash Brewing Co. Very Maine. It is such an ideal setting and I believe the new owners are embracing Maine and the residents of Belgrade Lakes, where they can care for them in their very own kitchen. We live in Portland, so our trips up will be infrequent - but if you live near/in or want to take a nice evening drive to a spectacular dinner - I would suggest heading to The Village Inn - heck, you can even get a room for the night!

When in Belgrade lakes it's a must to go here for their duck. Half a duck with a choice of sauces. Incredibly tasty. Full menu of seasonable courses includes steak chicken and seafood. Lobster choices too. Cosy with both indoor and outdoor seating and great friendly and attentive wait staff

Duck on the lake - We've loved it for years, and were excited about the new ownership. We didn't get to meet anyone unfortunately, and as always, there was Charlie working the tables with his abundant charm. Maybe next time. The slimmed down menu was welcome. The salads and vegetables were fresh and flavorful. The interior was nicely improved with some dark trim and plaid touches. The dockside scene was welcoming and friendly with live music. But please - don't give up the duck!

I was so interested to see the changes in the menu with new ownership. Menu is great with nice variety. We sat outside, setting was beautiful . The waitress took 20 minutes to greet us. Another half hour to bring our wine and sodas. Somewhere we ended up with a new waitress , better . About an hour to get our meals. Steak was overcooked and not great quality potatoes were cold, duck was underdone. Sent potatoes back and 15 minutes later they came back still cold. Very disappointing. Desert was good

WOW! The Village Inn has changed in the last year. The food is great as always and the service is great! There are some new items on the menu but the greats are still there.

The Village Inn is known for the fact that this tiny restaurant sells more duck dinners than any restaurant in the US. Yes, it's that good. Prices have gone up, salad bar has gone down to the point you get a tiny salad now. No bar. But still great ! They DO have their own parking lot across the street. My family has been going there for over 40 years.!
